A Guide to CIMA's Accounting Qualification
CIMA is the world’s largest professional body of management accountants and offers one of the most respected accounting qualifications in the UK. Taking your exams and becoming a full CIMA member can pave the way for a better future with a higher salary and more opportunities. The CIMA examinations blend management accounting, financial accounting and business-focused subjects into one comprehensive qualification that helps you to deliver exceptional performance and discover your true potential.
Is CIMA Right for Me?
The CIMA qualification teaches you how to analyse information and advise on business strategy to enable you to drive sustainable success for your organisation. You could be just starting out in your career or looking for a promotion to a more senior role, yet you’ll find just as much benefit in taking your CIMA examinations regardless of your situation. The syllabus helps you to continue improving your professional skills and ensures that you’re fully prepared to take on any professional challenge, so the course is definitely a worthwhile investment.
Who Can Study for CIMA Qualifications?
Anyone with base level accounting qualifications can study for CIMA, whether they are new to finance or an experienced accountant. There are pre-requisite entry requirements to consider, and you will need to have a CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting, a degree in business or accounting, or an AAT Technician/Diploma (level 4) to be eligible.
What Are the Benefits of CIMA Membership?
As well as helping you to improve your organisation’s performance, CIMA also gives you a range of personal benefits, including professional development resources and support. These can make the crucial difference between staying at the same level and gaining a promotion.
Once you are a fully qualified CIMA member, you will be able to use the letters CGMA after your name, which indicates to your business and the wider industry that you are a Chartered Global Management Accountant with exceptional skills.
Access To Better Opportunities
FTSE 100 companies are consistently hiring CIMA members and paying more for the benefits that having a Chartered Global Management Accountant will bring to their business. CIMA has a dedicated career portal with more than 2,700 new opportunities posted every month, and you can sign up for personalised job alert emails to ensure that you don’t miss out on your next big break.
The Ultimate Professional Network
CIMA members are part of the biggest management accountancy professional network in the UK. By becoming chartered, you gain access to a huge community of business leaders, hiring managers, recruitment companies and HR departments, which will truly open doors for you and help you to stay up to date with the latest advancements in the industry and new opportunities.
Keeping Your Professional Skills Sharp
CGMA designation holders are required to continue their professional development throughout their career in order to maintain their CIMA qualifications. You’ll always be at the forefront of financial thinking and business strategy thanks to the wealth of CPD resources provided.
How Many CIMA Exams Are There
There are three CIMA learning pillars: Enterprise, Performance and Financial expertise. Each of the three pillars has three levels, so there are twelve CIMA exams in total.
Nine of these exams are objective tests and three are case study exams. You can take the objective tests at any Pearson VUE assessment centre — there are over 5,000 centres worldwide. The Case Study exams are three hours long and available to take in four windows throughout the year. Like the objective tests, these are also held at Pearson VUE assessment centres.
